Dear Inthecrak Fans,
I finally decided to reduce the global size of my inthecrack collection (more than 200 Gb !) with a minimum of quality loss.
I did a lot of tests and I decided to resample all HD videos in 960x540. I compared a lot of codecs (h264, DivX, XviD, Real Video...) and I choosed the "Real Video" format (RV10) for some reasons :
- first the quality : the results are amazing ! Both h264 and Real Video gave the best results, but because Real Video need less encoding time and less CPU power to read videos, I choosed Real Video.
- secondly it's really easy to install Real Video codec on a computer : you just need to install "Real Alternative" (
http://www.free-codecs.com/Real_Alte...e_download.htm ) and that's all ! The player is contained in the Real Alternative package and it works very very fine...
- the last reason is that I like the .mkv container (Matroska). Really better than .avi or .ogm... I thought that it's a good way to promote this container
Last remark : I also compared a lot of resampling algorythms (to downsample from 1920x1080 to 960x540 or from 1280x720 to 960x540) and now I can swear that I choosed the best ! AviSynth contain a lot of resampling algorythms and I compared all of them...
Well, if you have some remarks/questions/requests, don't hesitate to contact me ! It will be always a great pleasure to help inthecrack's fans
I will upload my files by series of entire set : .rar archives won't contain only one video file, but all videos of the concerned set. You will see that the weight difference is really significative. I noticed that usually I reduced the videos size by 3 !
Cheers,
Alain.
