Bad actors regularly purchase ad placements for software-related search terms, directing clicks to fake download pages or phishing sites.

Use a browser extension that flags suspicious sites. Tools like Malwarebytes Browser Guard or uBlock Origin can catch known malicious domains before you even land on them. They're free, lightweight, and genuinely useful.

Verify the file before you run it. Many official software pages publish checksums (MD5, SHA-256) alongside their download links. These are unique fingerprints for the file.
